Taking the first step toward mental health care can feel like a big decision. Telepsychiatry makes that step easier. You meet with a psychiatric provider by secure video, from anywhere in New Mexico, without driving to an office or sitting in a waiting room.
If you have never had a telehealth visit before, here is exactly what to expect.
Before your appointment
Request an appointment. You can request an appointment online or call our office at 505-393-4960. Sending your information ahead of time helps us schedule you quickly, often for the same day. If we miss your call, we respond to voicemails within 24 hours.
Complete your intake paperwork. After you schedule, we send you an invitation to our patient portal. There you complete your intake paperwork electronically. Please finish it before your visit, or we may need to reschedule.
Share your insurance details. We are in network with several plans, including Presbyterian, Cigna, United Healthcare, Optum, Evernorth, Tricare West and Western Sky. Send your current insurance information before your visit so our billing team can verify your benefits. Self-pay options are also available.
Check your tech. You do not need special software. Our video platform opens in any updated web browser on your phone or computer. On a computer, you will need a camera and microphone. A Wi-Fi connection works best, though a good cellular signal is fine.
During your first visit
Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of up to 60 minutes. It works much like an in-office visit, in a private, secure online space using HIPAA-compliant video software.
Your provider will ask about:
- What brings you in and how you have been feeling
- Your psychiatric history, including any past treatment or medications
- Your social and family history
- Your goals for care
After the evaluation, your provider will explain what they found, discuss a diagnosis and review your treatment options with you. You are part of every decision.
Tips for a smooth visit:
- Find a quiet, private spot where you feel comfortable talking
- Join a few minutes early to test your camera and sound
- Have a list of current medications and any questions ready
